Mainamati is a historic place situated near Comilla District Town. One of the oldest civilizations in the area of ​​Lalmai, discovered in the present day is the Mainamati cemetery. The debris seen in present-day Mainamati region is indeed an ancient city and the remains of the Buddhist monastery. According to archaeologists, it is the ruins of an ancient city known as Jaayanantbasak.




This place was the capital of Buddhist kingdom in medieval period. According to historians, the name of this mountainous hill area named after Mani Chandra's wife, Queen Mainamati, was named after Mainamati. Most republics of Comilla district are located here. The biggest ruins of the country such as Salvan Bihara, Anandabihar etc. are located in Mainamati. Many of these Buddhist monasteries found ancient Buddhist literature. These traces are found in 1955 when the excavation began. In addition to Buddhism, there are also foundings of Jain and Hindu deities. Apart from this, a museum has also been established to preserve the archaeological observation of the place. At present there is a cantonment in Mainamati. Which was used as a battleground for the British during World War II. Apart from Mainamati it is known as Lalmai and Hiltonia.
Some of the important structures at Mainamati site are:

Itakhola Mura:
An important archaeological site located in the Mainamati region of Comilla district of Bangladesh. It is situated on the opposite side of Rupban Mura on Kotbari road in Comilla Sadar upazila.




This place is located on three stages of hills. Since ancient times, this place has been used as a burning brick mine. That's why it has been named.

Mrila mura:

This is a 1200-year-old archaeological archaeological site located in Comilla Cantonment. Locally, it is known as Kirlola Mura. Due to the excavation, the main three Buddhist stupas have been discovered here. These stupas are symbols of Buddhism, Tri-Ratna (Buddha, Religion and Sangha).



Two gold statues of seven-eightth century, digested seams and deposits of dense and a gold coin of the last Abbasid caliph Mu'tasim Billahar (1282 - 1258) were found in the excavation. As a result, the establishment was effective from the 7th century till the thirteenth century.

Shalban Buddhist Vihara:
Shalban Buddhist Bihar is one of the ancient civilizations of Bangladesh. One of the numerous ancient structures of the Lalmai-Mainamati site in Comilla district, this Buddhist monastery It is marked as the 12th archaeological area.




The location of this monastery is situated in the middle of Lalmai hills of Birdkarki in Kotbari. Around this time, there was a dense forest of shal-gajari in the vicinity of the monastery. It was named after Shaloban Bihar.

 Among all archaeological sites excavated at Comilla's Mainamati, Salban Vihara is one of the main. Its adjacent village is named Shalvanpur. There is still a small forest there. This monastery is like the Paharpur Buddhist monastery but it is small in size.

Rupban Mura:
Rupban Mura is one of the most notable historical places in Comilla. According to the Department of Archeology, the Department of Archeology, made by Rupan Mouda, built before the 8th century, by analyzing the relics from the Rupban Mura site.



 After digging, the architectural monuments of a monastery, a temple, a small pile and an altar were uncovered.

Charpatta is an archaeological site of Mainamati. It is located in the middle of Comilla Cantonment in the north of Lalmai Shailshirra. As a result of the excavation, the presence of a small Hindu Pithasthan or temple (45.7 mikam 16.8m) has been revealed. This temple is famous in terms of planning, shape, architecture, design and decoration.




There are many valuable burial grounds in the Mahabihara of Shreebhadra of Comilla, Kolara Mura, Charpatra Mura, Rupbanamura, Itakhola Mura, Ananda Vihara, Ranir Bangla, and Bhoj Raja's house. For the preservation and display of these authors, a museum of West-west was set up in front of Salban on the south side of Shalvan Bihar in Comilla Kotbari in 1965.

Near the center of the museum, a cultural department and a beautiful flower garden were developed.
